Sidney Crosby: By the Numbers

Before the season, certain naysayers and unbelievers were claiming that Sidney Crosby had already peaked, would face a sophomore slump, and lose the scoring race and MVP award to Alexander Ovechkin.

Well, woe to those who doubt the greatness of Sidney Crosby. While he sits tied for 4th in the NHL in scoring with 28th points (with at least 4 games in hand), Ovechkin sits down in 16th place with the riff-raff.

Let's break down the numbers. Hammer time!

Ice Time:
2006: 20:08
2007: 20:55

Points Per Game
2006: 1.26
2007: 1.55

Shots Per Game:
2006: 3.43
2007: 2.55

PIM Per Game
2006: 1.35
2007: 1.33

Face-Off %
2006: 45.49%
2007: 50.42%

Production (Minutes between points)
2006: 15:58
2007: 13:26

So, Sidney has really worked hard and improved on his weak face-off percentage of last year and has achieved a nice break-even ability. The only downside I see is that he still takes too many minor penalties and his shots-on-goal numbers are down. Other than that, Sidney just keeps on improving.

Before the season, certain naysayers and unbelievers were claiming that Sidney Crosby had already peaked...

Who were these naysayers? I missed seeing anybody make this claim.

Not really having anything to do with anything, but Marion Gaborik was at Bar None on saturday in Vancouver. Or at least he was outside Bar None.....they wouldn't let him in.

Why would Marian Gaborik be in Vancouver?!

That's the question I had when I saw him....no doubt about it though, it was him.

Maybe he's injured and on vackay?

Crosby wouldn't have to take any penalties if he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of useless p***ies. The other day he was blatantly cross-checked in the slot, looked up long enough to see that the two blind zebras weren't going to call it, and hammered back on the guy with a retaliatory cross-check. Gretzky never had to lay the lumber on anyone because he knew that Semenko was taking numbers and retribution would be dished out in time. Pittsburgh needs to address this problem sooner rather than later.

Gaborik was in Vancouver for treatments. It was at the Swedish Touch I think. Sheez, I don't blame him! He has returned to St. Paul tho.

By the way, Crosby is a diver! Even Ron Maclean saw that when he referee'd a preseason game. I would let Crosby get mugged if he keeps on diving like that. Fuckim
